We are an anti-Zionist collective of people living in Australia. We reject Zionism as a movement grounded in Jewish supremacy.
Background to Anti-Zionism
The establishment of the State of Israel as a race-based ethnostate has come at the expense of the Palestinian people. Israel is an apartheid state, illegally expanding and contravening international law, and is now committing a genocide in Gaza.
From the beginning, Zionism has been first an ideology, then also the practice of a settler colonial project, established with the support of Western imperialism and acting as a watchdog for Western interests.
The Zionist state continues to pursue an expansionist agenda, in the process carrying out wave after wave of ethnic cleansing. We believe there is no prospect for peace as long as Zionism remains empowered.
What is our purpose?
To stand against ethnocide, genocide and apartheid. It is Israel’s crimes falsely carried out in the name of Judaism, Christian Zionism and Western liberalism that are fomenting racism against Palestinians, as well as Jewish people and other minorities. Rejecting Zionism is not antisemitic.
Our aim, in collaboration with other anti-Zionist groups, is the de-Zionisation of Australian society, amplifying the radical anti-Zionist tradition in Australia through education, resistance, mobilisation and advocacy, from an informed anti-Zionist perspective. We recognise this is urgent for Palestine as well as to protect democracy in Australia.
Anti-Zionism Australia is a non-denominational diverse group, initiated by Jewish Australians and former Jewish residents of Palestine in Naarm/Melbourne. We include former Zionists who are now committed to opposing Zionism, in collaboration with the pro-Palestine movement.
We come from different backgrounds but we are united in our rejection of Zionism as part of a universal anti-racist approach, and by our commitment to anticolonial struggle in Australia and solidarity with Palestinians and Indigenous people worldwide.
